Happy New Year

HAVE YOU GOT IT DOWN PAT?

Finally a resolution that can be kept with the new solution to the FDA PAT (Process Analytical Technology) Initiative. Getting 2005 off to a flying start, Dr. Robin Brooks will demonstrate how Geometric Process Control (GPC) implements PAT in Frankfurt, Germany from January 19th-21st. The International Quality and Productivity Centre (IQPC) host a “Successfully Implementing PAT” Conference with delegates from around the globe. In recognition of the growing awareness and success of GPC as the solution to PAT Curvaceous has been invited to run a three hour GPC workshop on January 19th. This is a rare opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of these methods. Enrol now at the IQPC website www.iqpc.com

Geometric Process Control (GPC) technology is the newest tool on the market for dealing with the PAT Initiative. GPC can model an entire process step providing continuous quality assurance. Quality violations are prevented by precise operator real time guidance thus achieving the requirements of PAT. What is the PAT Initiative?

As the only proven solution to all of your PAT problems GPC is a breath of fresh air to the Pharmaceutical industry. Our representatives would be only to happy to talk you through this novel technology at this event.

If PAT is not your thing have no fear, GPC is being successfully used throughout the process industries including Chemicals, Food, Oil and Gas and Medical Research.

DID YOU KNOW?

Black Holes are ranges of values of a variable inside your process control limits where you are operating but cannot achieve your objectives. They can only be seen with C:Suite visualExplorer (CVE). Black Holes illustrate that the space in which processes operate is multiply connected not simply connected as process control theory and process design methods have always assumed. We have seen Black Holes in every one of the many processes we have examined. They cause lower yields and must be avoided to minimise costs. Where are yours?

ECONOMISE AND REDUCE YOUR PROCESS FUEL CONSUMPTION

Curvaceous Geometric Process Control (GPC) is a completely new all-British invention.  It uses multi-dimensional geometry to visualise and model several hundred process, cost, quality and emissions variables at once. Imagine seeing 200,000 sets of readings of 200 variables in one easily understandable graph.

Award winning GPC technology underlies all C:Suite products which are designed to enable process operation to stay within the best part of the operating region.

C:Suite Visual Explorer (CVE) and Process Modeller (CPM) use historical operating data to create a Best Operating Zone (BOZ) and provide automatic correction advice to keep operation within this. Encompassing the first ever method to set precise dynamic alarm limits the analysis and modelling procedures can be set to include the criteria of low fuel consumption. Thus leading to record fuel consumption levels and a large cost saving.

Managing Director of Curvaceous, Dr. Robin Brooks, enthused “This is a real breakthrough for all manufacturers as fuel costs are rising and will continue to do so far into the future. GPC can show operators now how to reduce their fuel consumption and so save money, all with very little effort and no need for mathematical knowledge. In one improvement project on a 10MW Combined Heat and Power plant we showed how to gain a 20% reduction in fuel usage.”

GPC is so unique that it is taking the process industries from Chemicals to Pharmaceuticals and Food by storm. Internationally acclaimed Curvaceous Software is helping manufacturers worldwide to operate processes to their full potential. Contact us for more information.

CURVACEOUS WORLDWIDE

Stochos Incorporated of Schnectady, New York and Mode2 Technology Pty. Ltd. of Sydney have been appointed as Agents in North America and Australasia respectively.

Finn Peacock, Managing Director of Mode2, is enthusiastic about the future, "GPC is a fantastic technology Australian process industries are now lucky enough to be able to share in this process operation revolution. Industries from Food to Fuel, Pharmaceuticals and Chemicals will all benefit by learning how to operate their respective processes to their full potential."

A new Agency is forming in Germany at present and there will be more information available in the next issue. More Agents are required in North America and Europe so if you have an urge to become Curvaceous then contact us.

  DID YOU KNOW?

All of the problems of process alarms stem from today's badly set alarm limits. They can only be badly set because there was never, before GPC, a method to precisely calculate them and their interactions with each other. Much, much better alarms are provided by C:Suite Process Modeller (CPM). They are so accurate that in a recent oil industry application they predicted column flooding 25 minutes before it occurred and quality deviations at the end of a 4 column distillation train 2 hours before they occurred.

  ONE-CLICK AND IT'S ALL OVER

NEW for 2005, our 'One-Click Launch' for PI® has already been put through its paces by existing customers and has come out on top.

The 'One-Click Launch' for PI dramatically quickens the extraction phase of moving raw data from Excel® into C:Suite visualExplorer (CVE), which means process improvement follows sooner.

The data clean up routine and automatic launch from PI sourced data to CVE occurs with just one click of the mouse. This facility eliminates all of the data preparation steps previously required. This consequently reduces the knowledge and time needed to start analysis, therefore bringing business benefits to your fingertips much more quickly.

From PI data in Excel, ‘one click’ will …

              Convert date fields
                       Identify and resolve label/tag conversion
Clean your data of PI generated error messages
                                     Enumerate text columns
                                            Clean-up invalid data
                                                   AND create a data file
                                                           then automatically launch CVE

Conversion information is automatically documented together with enumeration fields and label changes.

With the 'One-Click Launch' Interface everybody can use CVE effectively.

Our commitment - if you find a spreadsheet of PI data that doesn't open in CVE using One-Click, we will enhance our product to fix it.

If you use another historian and like the sound of this product, please contact us.

  CURVACEOUS DEVELOPMENTS

Success stories are popping up all over the place as GPC infiltrates control rooms around the world. Recently publicised case studies focus on Huntsman Petrochemicals and Mallinckrodt Chemicals and one can be found here in The Chemical Engineer and the other in Process Control News Europe.

We have continued taking big strides with Process Modeller (CPM) including models in the last 12 months of an unsteady state coating process, an oil refinery catalytic reformer including four reactors and four distillation columns, a large plastics plant with three crystallisers feeding two banks of centrifuges and currently a very exciting model covering five steps of a batch process.
